How will you translate your next big idea? Fancy hearing what the UK’s top biomedical funders are looking for and informally discussing your ideas?

On 12th May, the University of Birmingham is holding its second Translational Funding Event. We have had confirmation that representatives from BBSRC, CRUK, EPSRC, MRC and Wellcome Trust will attend and each give a brief presentation on how to submit a successful application to their translational funding schemes.  We also hope to welcome ARUK, LLR and NIHR.  There will be an informal networking lunch, and the opportunity to book a 1-2-1 slot (10-15 mins) to discuss your research and the suitability of it to a particular funder.

In addition, we will be holding an extended session with the MRC about our internal MRC Confidence in Concept (CiC) funding scheme and the external Developmental Pathway Funding Scheme (DPFS). This session will be of particular interest to recipients of MRC CiC funding, or those considering applying in the near future.

Proposed agenda: 1100 – Translation at UoB: MRC CiC with follow on info from MRC DPFS (IBR seminar room, MDS); 1200 – Networking lunch (IBR common room, MDS); 1300 – The next big thing: Securing external translational funding (IBR seminar room, MDS); 1430 – Individual funder 1-2-1s (IBR common room, MDS).

The event is open to all biomedical researchers across the University, so please do pass this on to anyone at UoB that may be interested in attending.  To register your interest in attending the event, please contact me (c.m.fenlon[at]bham.ac.uk) stating which part of the day you intend to come to.  If you would like to book a 1-2-1, then please specifying which one(s). If there is sufficient interest, we may need to run additional 1-2-1’s in the morning.
