Pump-Priming Scheme opportunity with Brazil

FAPERJ-University of Birmingham and University of Nottingham

Call for Research Proposals 2014

This is a call under the Cooperation Agreement between Fundação Carlos Chagas Filho de Amparo à Pesquisa do Estado do Rio de Janeiro (FAPERJ) and the University of Nottingham, and the University of Birmingham.

UoN and UoB in association with FAPERJ, the Rio de Janeiro Research Foundation, have put an agreement in place to facilitate academic cooperation. The first initiative under these cooperation agreements is a fund to pump-prime cross-continent research collaborations in the sciences, social sciences and humanities. Applications may also support the exchange of researchers (with doctoral degree or equivalent and post-doctoral fellows) from the State of Rio de Janeiro and from the United Kingdom within the scope of the Cooperation Agreement between FAPERJ and UoN and UoB.

Applications are invited from academics holding permanent positions in UoN and UoB and Brazilian research groups in the state of Rio de Janeiro to initiate new or strengthen existing research collaborations.

The key criteria are that the collaboration must at the minimum involve a  PI holding a permanent position in an institution of higher education and/or research based in the State of Rio de Janeiro and a PI from either or both of UoN or UoB. Ideally the application will also include collaboration with both UoN and UoB.

Funding can be sought for a range of activities including facilitating original research and workshop events, but the ultimate purpose must be to develop a collaboration that has the potential to lead directly to further applications to external funding bodies for research funding to support joint activity between the participants in Brazil and the UK.

Applications in any academics areas will be considered.

The call will open on 17 June 2014. The deadline for applications is Thursday 4th September 2014. Decisions will be notified on Thursday 23rd October 2014.
